The right care for your child's needs
Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation
Inpatient therapists are experts in treating your child following trauma, neurological insult, severe illness or various diagnoses secondary to prematurity. A physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech language pathologist may come to your child’s room to work with you and your child in hopes of restoring independence. Your child’s therapeutic needs will vary greatly depending on the reason they are in the hospital, and your child’s therapist will work closely with your family and the entire healthcare team toward a safe return home.
RNICU | Special Care Nursery
Therapists who work on the RNICU team consist of physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech language pathologists. The team follows the infants during their inpatient stay, and as outpatients in the Developmental Assessment Clinic.
The therapists will see your child in the RNICU at their cribside. Typically, appointment times will be scheduled around your child’s feeding time to allow for appropriate times of facilitation and appropriate times of rest. As your child progresses toward discharge it will be imperative that you participate in parent education with your child’s therapist to ensure a safe discharge home.
PICU | Pediatrics | Mother Baby
Therapists who work in the PICU, Pediatric, and Mother Baby units have specialized training in assisting your child during the acute phases of your child’s illness or injury. Therapy consists of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech pathology.
The main focus of your child’s therapy will be to work towards a safe discharge home. At this time your child’s therapist may be more focused on compensatory strategies and family education. Your child’s therapist will assist in the building blocks necessary to begin your child’s rehabilitation recovery and will communicate with your child's outpatient therapists upon discharge if more therapy is required.
