For extraordinary care
If a particular team member made your experience with us extra special, you may nominate that individual for a DAISY or BEE Award. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® can be given to a nurse at UM Health-Sparrow, or any outpatient clinic, and the BEE Award can be given to any team member that supports patient care. For extraordinary nurses
The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. UM Health-Sparrow is proud to be a DAISY Award Partner that recognizes one of our nurses with this special honor every month.
About the DAISY Foundation
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia (ITP) at 33 years old. DAISY is an acronym that stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. During Pat’s eight week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided not only to Pat but to everyone in his family. The Foundation was created in Pat’s memory to recognize extraordinary nurses for the enormous difference they make in the lives of their patients every day.
How are nurses recognized?
Each DAISY Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in her/his unit and will receive a beautiful certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled A Healer’s Touch.
Additionally, everyone in the unit will celebrate with cinnamon rolls – a favorite of Patrick’s during his illness. The Barnes Family asks that whenever and wherever nurses smell that wonderful cinnamon aroma, they stop for a moment and think about how special they are.
Nominate a deserving nurse by the 15th of the month to be considered for the following month’s DAISY Award.
For extraordinary supporting team members
About the BEE Award
Because a DAISY can’t survive without a BEE and a BEE can’t survive without a DAISY! The BEE Award recognizes excellence among clinical support caregivers who work alongside nursing teams to deliver quality, compassionate care. BEE is an acronym for Be Exceptional Every day.
How are team members recognized?
Acknowledging the strength behind teamwork, the BEE Award is given in conjunction with the DAISY Award to symbolize the relationship between nursing and clinical support caregivers – the same way bees and flowers depend on one another. Each BEE Award Honoree will be recognized at a public ceremony in her/his department and will receive: a beautiful certificate, a BEE Award pin, and more.
