UM Health-Sparrow Ionia team member honored with DAISY award

Published: August 2, 2024

IONIA, MI – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Ionia recently honored an emergency department nurse with the DAISY Award for providing compassionate, quality care for patients.

Courtney Vance, BSN, RN, was named DAISY Award honoree based on a team member nomination commending her skills with pediatric patients and explaining that her “calm, competent demeanor contributes greatly to smooth intubation and stabilization.” Vance has worked at UM Health-Sparrow Ionia since 2022.

“Courtney is dedicated to providing excellent care to our patients,” said Tara Lanz, emergency department manager at UM Health-Sparrow Ionia. “Courtney is particularly strong in critical events and her performance has been noted by the team and her peers.”

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate, and skillful care given by nurses every day. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The DAISY Award is a national program created in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died in 1999 of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura, or ITP, at age 33. His family was overwhelmed by the skillful and compassionate nurses who cared for him, and the DAISY Foundation and award were created as an expression of their gratitude.
