The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Michael Haan of Lansing the November Volunteer of the Month. Haan has been volunteering in the new Gathering Space at Sparrow’s main campus two days a week following some time spent helping in the old basement cafeteria. He started in September of 2015 and had about 160 hours in his first year. He says he loves greeting people as they enter, keeping the tables and trays clean, stocking supplies and smiling. He does have a wonderful and welcoming smile.
He is a Waverly High School student, lives with his parents, Calvin and Pam, who is a Sparrow caregiver in the Cancer Center, and has a brother, Andrew and a sister Emily. He also has “adopted” Emily’s husband, Colin, as a surrogate brother for Andrew who lives in California. He travels with his parents to California to visit Andrew and has traveled to Florida. Haan grew up in Lansing and enjoys CATA rides to educational classes as well as the gym for basketball. He wants to go to Lansing Community College to study in a health- related field. Haan also volunteers at the Volunteers of America store.
The Sparrow Women’s Board of manages takes great pride in honoring volunteers like Michael Haan who share their time and talent for the benefit of Sparrow’s patients and families. To learn more about volunteering at Sparrow, please visit sparrow.org or call our office at 517.364.3606, option 1.
