Mary Jane is a long-time Lansing resident, former Lansing School District teacher and retired building administrator. Today, Mary Jane has moved her career from the classroom to healthcare and she’s been a very busy volunteer since 1996. Last month, she completed nine years of service to the Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers as a board member who spent a great deal of her tenure as the chair of the Archive Committee. Mary Jane’s first passion as a volunteer is to Sparrow’s Gift Shop and she has served as the group’s trainer for nearly 20 years. In her role as shop trainer, she meets each new gift shop volunteer and teaches them the ropes from running the cash register to stocking merchandise.
Mary Jane McGuire’s quiet confidence, caring and compassionate approach is a role model for all Sparrow volunteers. She’s an incredibly well-organized person who others enjoy working with both in the shop and on the Women’s Board.
The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Mary Jane McGuire the July Volunteer of the Month. cognized by Sparrow Health System for her service on the Women’s Board and she was hailed for her mentorship and guidance to new volunteers, her leadership style, grace and dignity. She has given 4000 hours of service to Sparrow since 1996.
Mary jane has a daughter who resides in Lansing and two sons who live out state. When not volunteering at the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her children and grandchildren.
