LANSING, Mich. – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow has been recognized as a Best Hospital for 2024-25 by U.S. News & World Report.
UM Health-Sparrow earned "high-performing" designations for treating Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), heart attack, heart failure and for prostate cancer surgery. The “high-performing” designation acknowledges hospitals that consistently deliver high-quality care for specific medical procedures and conditions.
“Our cardiologists strive to deliver quality standardized care through a team-based approach,” said Joel Cohn, M.D, UM Health-Sparrow Heart and Vascular medical director. “Our high performance in live-saving treatment for heart attacks is closely linked to our excellence in heart failure care.”
"We are proud to offer leading-edge prostate care to our cancer patients, close to home,” said UM Health-Sparrow urologist Richard Sarle, M.D. “This achievement highlights our dedication to providing patients with innovative treatments and improving outcomes.”
At UM Health-Sparrow, our team takes a multi-disciplinary approach to provide exceptional care for COPD patients.
“The care of the patient starts while in the Emergency Department and continues to pulmonary rehab where they develop techniques to succeed in everyday life,” said Shari Heydenburg, director of neurosciences and pulmonary services. “The dedication and excellent work of our respiratory therapists, pulmonologists, nurses, case managers and pharmacists make this achievement possible.”
The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 35th year, evaluated nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide in 15 specialties and 20 procedures and conditions. The rankings are designed to assist patients and their clinicians in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.
UM Health-West in Grand Rapids, part of U-M Health’s regional network, also earned top honors for treating heart attacks, along with hip and knee replacement. This year, U.S. News & World Report recognized U-M Health in Ann Arbor as a top organization among hospitals evaluated and tied for No. 1 in Michigan.
