UM Health-Sparrow Issues Annual Report on Local Drug Deaths

LANSING, MI – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Forensic Pathology Services has released its annual report on drug-related deaths in the seven counties in which UM Health-Sparrow serves as medical examiner.

The report shows a slight decline overall in drug-related deaths in local counties during 2023, compared to the previous year. The report provides detail on each drug death and the type of drug involved. As the office of the medical examiner for the seven counties (Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Livingston, and Shiawassee), UM Health-Sparrow is nationally accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners to perform autopsies, postmortem examinations, and on-scene forensic death investigations as an important part of the investigation process.
