Caregivers from the Sparrow Weight Management program have already hit 600 pounds in a rally to donate one pound of food for every one lost by their Patients during Sparrow’s Harvest Gathering Food Drive.
The Michigan Harvest Gathering is an annual statewide campaign that raises food, funds and awareness for hunger in Michigan. Sparrow Caregivers anticipate raising 1,000 pounds of food before the drive ends on Nov.14.
Since its inception in 1991, the Michigan Harvest Gathering has raised more than $8.9 million and more than over nine million pounds of food, significantly benefitting Michigan food banks and our state’s emergency response.
Sparrow Caregivers systemwide participate, often challenging other Departments and locations to build momentum. Last year, the Surgical Services Department’s Caregivers, Physicians, staff and family members pooled their resources and donated enough money for 10,000 meals. Overall, Sparrow Caregivers donated more than 3.5 tons of food and more than $3,000 to Michigan Harvest Gathering in 2013.
Supporting causes such as the Michigan Harvest Gathering is just one way our Caregivers show compassion and strive to achieve Sparrow’s mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve.
Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
