Sparrow Hospital has been reverified as a Level 1 Trauma Center for adult and pediatric Patients through 2017 as it continues to provide the highest level of trauma services in mid-Michigan.
The American College of Surgeons awarded Sparrow its top designation after a lengthy application process and an on-site visit by a team of experts earlier this year. The reverification reflects Sparrow’s mission to be a leader in treating Patients by offering quality, compassionate care.
“Reverification as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons means that the Sparrow Board, Administration and Caregivers, along with Michigan State University, have committed long-term to give high-quality, evidence based, Patient-centered care to Patients who are injured,” said John Kepros, M.D., Medical Director for Sparrow Trauma Services.
The ACS originally named Sparrow’s Trauma Center a “Verified” facility in 1998.
Sparrow is the mid-Michigan region’s only verified Level 1 Trauma Center, with a team of surgeons, Physicians, specially trained Registered Nurses and skilled Emergency Technicians ready to treat Patients with injuries from motor vehicle accident, falls, assaults and other traumatic injuries. Sparrow staffs the hospital with surgeons around the clock and has an operating room ready at all times for trauma cases.
The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational association of surgeons founded in 1931 to raise the standards of surgical education and improve surgical Patient care. ACS has more than 72,000 members, making it the largest association of surgeons worldwide.
