LANSING, MI – The highly skilled Obstetric Anesthesia team at E.W. Sparrow Hospital has once again earned a Center of Excellence designation from a national organization, placing Sparrow among the top health systems in the country.
Sparrow earned the designation from the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). Sparrow first earned the honor in 2019 and is just one of 30 distinguished institutions nationwide – including Johns Hopkins, Stanford, and Tufts – to earn recertification this year. The SOAP Center of Excellence designation is a reflection of the collective efforts of the entire Labor and Delivery team in ensuring the highest quality of care for all of our patients and patient safety standards.
“The SOAP Centers of Excellence designation acknowledges Sparrow’s commitment to excellence in the provision of safe, effective, and the most up-to-date obstetric anesthetic clinical care,” said Lee Coleman, M.D., Medical Director for Sparrow’s Obstetric Anesthesia Department. “The patients in Mid-Michigan can be reassured that Sparrow’s OB Anesthesia Department provides the same level of quality care as anywhere in the nation.”
In order to qualify for a Center of Excellence designation, the SOAP committee completed a thorough assessment of staffing, implementation of practices complying with national guidelines, as well as reviewing up-to-date technology, equipment, and a process for continuous quality improvement. The designation is effective for four years.
The Obstetric Anesthesia team at Sparrow is proud to be a leader for excellence throughout the state and nation and to provide quality, compassionate care to our families and babies.
