LANSING, Mich. - Sparrow today announced its support and leadership in the Healthy Food Hospitals campaign, part of an ongoing effort by Sparrow to promote wellness and children's health issues.
Sparrow has taken a leadership role in health and wellness in mid-Michigan. The health system's mission is to improve the health of people in our communities by providing quality, compassionate care to everyone, every time.
The Healthy Food Hospitals campaign is a major statewide initiative to improve the nutrition of the food served by all Michigan hospitals to patients, staff and visitors. The campaign in part focuses on healthy menus, including nutritional beverages, for pediatric patients. Sparrow has already implemented many facets of the program.
Sparrow has undertaken numerous initiatives to promote children's health and wellness.
"Our goal is to help mid-Michigan residents lead healthier lives and we know that begins with a solid nutritional and fitness foundation for children," said Sparrow Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Joe Ruth.
"Our programs for children are based upon providing the right lessons on nutrition but also getting young people active in a fun way."
Sparrow has been a key player in the development of the Healthy Food Hospitals campaign, with several Sparrow leaders providing guidance on the program's materials.
