Sparrow Ionia Hospital has been nationally recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System

Published: February 1, 2021

IONIA, MI – Sparrow Ionia Hospital has been nationally recognized as an Age-Friendly Health System for its commitment to develop and implement a plan of high-quality care for its older adult patients.

The honor came from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, a not-for-profit organization that promotes health improvement by advancing the quality and value of health care.

Sparrow Ionia’s comprehensive plan provides four elements of care, known as the “4Ms”: What Matters, Medication, Mentation (mental activity) and Mobility.

Sparrow Ionia recently participated in the second Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Keystone Center Age-Friendly Health Systems Action Community – a 7-month program that involves learning, activities and testing to help participating organizations continually improve their age-friendly initiatives. Half of all admitted patients at Sparrow Ionia are ages 65 and older. Congratulations to all the dedicated caregivers at Sparrow Ionia who are working tirelessly to improve care for older adults.
