Sparrow is honored to be part of a new community project placing artfully decorated pianos throughout Lansing and East Lansing in public areas for anyone who would like to spontaneously make music. The project is called “Keys in the Cities.” More than a dozen pianos have been placed throughout Lansing and East Lansing.
Sparrow’s piano was reimagined by Tiffany Klein, artist/owner of La Fille Gallery in Lansing. Klein, who studied the art of fresco painting in Italy, has refined a method of working with concrete to fashion beautifully sculpted three-dimensional murals that she places on furniture, walls, and even building exteriors.
Sparrow’s piano bears classically imagined cherubs and angels. The inside of the key cover bears Klein’s theme for the piece: “Allow your passion to become your purpose and it will one day become your profession.”
She said she hopes the piano will be enjoyed by everyone who comes across it inside the 3rd Floor Atrium of the Sparrow Professional Building.
“For people who have the talent or gift but don’t have the opportunity to play, this makes music accessible for them. The artists get to share their talents and passion with those whose talent or passion is music. This is a great way for them to come together and share that with the public.”
