Sparrow is now among an elite group of hospitals that have achieved Magnet® redesignation, signifying the highest level of nursing excellence, quality Patient care and innovative professional nursing practices in the country.
This recognition, announced this week by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, is the nation's most prestigious honor for nursing achievement and considered the "gold standard" for nursing care in hospitals.
"We are absolutely honored with this international recognition," said Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Wesley, RN, MSN. "Our redesignation is a testament to Sparrow Hospital's more than 1,800 Nurses' hard work and dedication to quality, compassionate care."
Sparrow was originally designated as a Magnet hospital in 2009 and our team's ongoing commitment to clinical and service excellence helped meet the stringent redesignation standards, which focus on measurable outcomes. Magnet designation is held by only 401 of America's 6,000 hospitals.
"Magnet redesignation is a genuine mark of excellence for Sparrow Nurses and our entire team," said Dennis Swan, Sparrow President and CEO. "We thank each of our Caregivers for enthusiastically supporting our redesignation efforts and for their commitment to providing quality care to every Patient, every time."
According to the ANCC, research indicates that Magnet hospitals produce better Patient outcomes than other hospitals. Independent research also shows that hospitals with Magnet recognition consistently outperform their peers in recruiting and retaining outstanding Nurses. The ANCC is the largest and most prominent nursing credentialing organization in the United States.
