The 2014 Hike/Bike for Hospice, to be held Sept. 21 at Granger Meadows Park in DeWitt, will honor the path that every life takes and those whose journey finds them in the compassionate care of Sparrow Hospice Services.
Participants will include the family of Annabelle Kong, a young Sparrow Hospice Patient who died in January 2014. Her parents, Lisa and Peter Kong, deeply appreciate how Sparrow Home Hospice helped the whole family prepare for her final days.
“It meant so much to us that we were able to keep her home surrounded by her friends and family,” said Lisa Kong. “Without Sparrow Home Hospice we would not have been able to give Annabelle the peaceful passing that she so deserved.”
This year’s event features a 5K hike, 20 or 40 mile bike ride and a new kids bike/run for kids 4-10 years of age.
“This event is a chance to reflect and offer hope and support for our families in a way that also supports the continued delivery of compassionate hospice care in mid-Michigan for those to come,” said Michelle Wiseman, Director of Sparrow Hospice and Palliative Care Services.
The Hike/Bike event features a remembrance room, picket fence memorial, hiking and biking trails, food, and kids’ activities including a petting zoo, inflatable bounce house, face painting, touch-a-truck, and special appearances by Sparty, Big Lug, Zeke the Wonderdog and Sir Duncan!
