Celebration of Regional Growth Honorees

Sparrow Health System has undertaken a significant investment in the community, more than $285 million in construction and information technology projects over a five-year period. Among the notable investments are the $64-million Sparrow Plaza, which will house the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, the Sparrow Health Center Lansing near Frandor, and the Gathering Place at Sparrow, which is a dazzling new modern and upscale dining area inside Sparrow Hospital. The Sparrow Health Center Lansing, which opens this week, is a $20 million, 70,000-square-foot building containing many services.

Block Imaging is being honored with the International Trade award. Block Imaging is a premier worldwide provider of refurbished medical imaging equipment, parts and services. Radiology and imaging professionals from around the world come to Block Imaging when they need help buying, selling, servicing and maintaining their medical imaging equipment including: MRI, CT, C-Arm, digital x-ray, PET/CT and women’s health. Block Imaging extends the life of imaging equipment so that healthcare providers worldwide can extend the lives of patients. Over the past two decades Block has developed a global presence, doing business in more than 100 countries. The company has offices in Japan and Germany and also has a strong business presence in South Korea, Australia, Europe, Latin America, Canada and Africa.

MSU Federal Credit Union has recently made major investments in new facilities and is being recognized for two of those investments: the construction of a second building adjacent to its corporate headquarters near Coolidge and West Road in East Lansing and a new intern center in downtown East Lansing. Construction on the $46 million, 186,000-square-foot corporate headquarters expansion began in 2015 and is slated for completion in August 2017. The building includes a basement and three floors that will accommodate 564 employees over 12 years. The new facility will allow MSUFCU to expand its suite of innovative products and services and will house the credit union’s call center, e-services and IT operations.

Lansing Community College has strengthened the connection between people and the places they share in downtown Lansing. In recent years, LCC has made major upgrades to its central campus building, most notably the Gannon Building and the Arts and Sciences Building. The upgraded facilities are creating an environment for developing the next generation of workers that are needed to fill critical jobs in the region. LCC has also demonstrated its commitment to a cleaner, greener campus through a major tree planting initiative. LCC has planted approximately 200 trees downtown over the past two years. The additional trees not only create an urban forest for students, faculty and staff, but has transformed the streetscape in the heart of downtown Lansing.

The Celebration of Regional Growth awards program is an annual event presented by the LRCC. This year’s luncheon is sponsored by PNC Bank, Loomis, Ewert, Parsley, Davis & Gotting, P.C. & Consumers Energy. Registration information can be found at www.lansingchamber.org.
