The mighty superheroes of Pleasant View Magnet School's 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes banded together today to stop super villains in their tracks during a comic-themed Field Day.
The event is part of the Sparrow Fitness Initiative Targeting Kids, or FITKids, which uses fun, engaging and creative nutrition and fitness activities to get young people on the road to better health.
During the Field Day, students participated as comic book superheroes from either the Marvel or DC universes. Their mission was to thwart super villains out to destroy healthy foods. Students ran obstacle courses and played active games as part of the Field Day, all while participating in the superhero-themed action.
Leading up to the Field Day, students were able to participate in a FITKids Comic Book Challenge, where they drew their own comics about the FITKids goals: Fuel Up on Whole Foods, Stay in Play - 60 a Day, Re-Think Your Drink, Keep Your Balance. The Stan Lee Foundation, founded by Lee, the former publisher of Marvel Comics, selected winners from each grade and sent signed certificates to the winner.
The Stan Lee Foundation is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide access to literacy, education and the arts throughout the nation.
