Heather Klopp, PA-C, is familiar to anyone who’s spent much time around the Sparrow Emergency Department. But some might not be aware that Klopp has also been serving for the past year as president of the Michigan Academy of Physician Assistants (MAPA).
After completing her term in July, she will continue to serve as the immediate past president until June 30, 2016.
Klopp has worked with Emergency Medical Associates at Sparrow Hospital since 2005, after graduating from the University of Detroit Mercy PA program. Prior to that time she worked at Sparrow as a Patient Care Technician.
MAPA’s primary responsibility is to represent PAs of Michigan through advocacy and leadership. MAPA is the essential resource for the PA profession in Michigan and the primary advocate for PAs in the state. The organization is committed to providing quality, cost-effective, and accessible health care through the promotion of professional growth and enhancement of the PA practice environment.
“I believe my involvement with MAPA has helped foster relationships with my Physician and NP colleagues,” said Klopp. “Our job is to care for Patients and although we may all have different roles in Patient care our focus is the same: making the lives of our Patients better.”
PAs are advocates of accessible and compassionate health care, Klopp said, in line with Sparrow’s own philosophy of making sure that Patient needs always come first.
“I also believe my involvement has helped me understand the bigger picture of medicine and health care policies both at the hospital and state level,” she said. “Developing new relationships and strengthening current ones with other providers is another big step in keeping Patients our priority.”
Klopp lives with husband Brian and their four daughters in Grand Ledge. The family enjoys sporting events, camping, and spending time with friends and relatives.
“We are Spartans all the way,” said Klopp.
