CHARLOTTE, MI – Sparrow Eaton Hospital is pleased to welcome community leaders J.P. Buckingham, Kathleen Cook, and Dan Shaver as its newest board members for terms through December 2023.

“We are very pleased to add these unique perspectives to our current Board of Directors.  Their knowledge of business development, law, and digital transformation are adding invaluable dimensions to our discussions,” said Sparrow Eaton Hospital President Helen Johnson, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, FACHE. “I look forward to partnering with them on improving the health of the people in our communities.”

J.P. Buckingham is a partner at Triterra, serving as Chief Operating Officer and Principal Geologist. He has over 20 years of experience in the manufacturing industry and environmental consulting. Buckingham received his bachelor’s degree in Geology from Hope College. He is married to Jennifer, with two children Camryn (16) and Carter (12) and resides on their family farm in Eaton Rapids.

“I am always looking for ways to give back and meet people within the community,” says Buckingham.” I hope to lend a different perspective and insight to help make Sparrow Eaton the best it can be.”

Kathie Cook - Sparrow Eaton Board

Kathleen “Kathie” Cook is an attorney and owner of the Law Office of Kathleen F. Cook in Charlotte. She has more than 40 years of experience specializing in estate planning, probate and trust administration, and elder law. She received her bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Michigan State University (MSU) and her law degree (Juris Doctor) from Emory University School of Law. Kathie is a Charlotte native who has served on a number of organizations and boards, including the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, Charlotte Community Library, and many more. She has served our local community hospital as a member of the Planned Gifts Committee and the Executive Committee. Kathie is married to Charles (Chuck), has two sons, two granddaughters and resides in Charlotte.

“My father, Robert Fulton, served as chairman of this hospital board for decades, my mother was a tireless Auxiliary volunteer  for the hospital as I grew up and my sister created Community Development and Philanthropy … it was really their combined dedication to our community hospital that inspired me,” says Cook. “I’ve always had a very healthy respect for the hospital – leadership and vision – and so to be approached to serve this remarkable organization was not only exciting, but an honor.”

Dan Shaver is a District Manager for Amazon Web Services (AWS), leading sales strategy and execution for the Great Lakes District. Shaver has vast experience in the digital sector within Microsoft Corporation where he spent the bulk of his career as a Data Platform Specialist focused on helping large organizations simplify complex business problems, and within IDV solutions, a Lansing-based startup. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration and corporate finance from Judson College in Elgin, Ill. He is married to Jill, with four children, and resides with his family in Charlotte.

“The hospital is such a fundamental pillar. Any good, thriving, healthy community needs a strong health system and we have that here in Sparrow Eaton,” says Shaver.

“My background is one of technology, data and entrepreneurship and much like at Amazon, I have a lens focused on the customer and their experience. In this role the patient is our primary customer and I am asking what the reality of their experience and quality of their care is at every touchpoint – from how they feel during initial outreach, to their time receiving care, to the follow-up afterward.”
