CHARLOTTE, MI – Sparrow Eaton Hospital is pleased to welcome community leaders Maria Davis, Joseph Garcia and Colette Scrimger to its Board of Directors for three-year terms.
The board members will help oversee Sparrow Eaton, working closely with senior leadership, and bring broad experience from various fields.
“We are delighted to add these three individuals to our Board of Directors, furthering our representation of broader geography and skillsets of finance, public policy and higher education,” said Sparrow Eaton President Helen Johnson, RN, MSN, NEA-BC, FACHE. “This diversity better equips us to make the best decisions for the health and well-being of those we serve in our local communities.”
Maria Davis is the provost and senior vice president for Olivet College. Davis has long invested in her local community in a number of arenas, currently serving as president of the Eaton Clothing and Furniture Center Board and serving on the Board of Trustees for the First Congregational Church. She is married to Terry, with one daughter, Anna – who is now practicing veterinary medicine in Charlotte – and resides in the rural outskirts of Charlotte.
“I look forward to contributing to the diversity and inclusion mindset as well as experience I’ve gained over the years to this wonderful organization that provides quality care to our community and to individuals of my own family,” says Davis.
Joseph (Joe) Garcia is deputy general counsel for the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS). He has served the state for more than 14 years, with the majority of his prior experience being in legal practice. In his early career he also clerked in the Ingham County Circuit Court, served as a law clerk in the Attorney General’s office and worked as a legislative staffer in the Michigan House of Representatives. Garcia is married to Michelle, with two daughters Elizabeth, 15, and Olivia, 13, and resides in Delta Township.
“A large part of my professional life has demonstrated an interest in public service, working the bulk of my career for the State of Michigan in many different capacities, but nothing Eaton County-centric,” says Garcia. “I feel this opportunity to be a part of Sparrow Eaton Hospital’s board allows me to make an impact closer to home and to serve my local community.”
Colette Scrimger is health officer for the Barry-Eaton District Health Department, located in Charlotte. She has more than two decades of experience as a seasoned public health leader. Over the years, Scrimger has been instrumental in forming a community health plan and leading numerous initiatives that champion public health policy. She has regularly served on school and church committees and councils and has always believed in service to the community. She is married to Gregg, has four children and resides in Eaton Rapids.
“I’ve collaborated with the Sparrow Eaton Hospital for many years now and so while I’ve always supported our local health system, I’m eager to be a part of it in a different way,” says Scrimger.
In addition to Davis, Garcia and Scrimger, the 2021 SEH Board of Directors includes Lori Pray, chair; Harper Wildern, O.D., vice chair; Daniel Shaver, secretary; J.P.
