CHARLOTTE, MI – As Sparrow Eaton Hospital approaches a milestone of performing 10,000 COVID-19 tests, and expects increased demand in December, the hospital is relocating its testing to AL!VE in order to improve access to the community, and accommodate traffic and winter weather.
Starting at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 11, Mid-Michigan residents can use a drive-thru lane at AL!VE, 800 W. Lawrence Ave., Charlotte, to receive the PCR nasopharyngeal swab, the most accurate and dependable COVID-19 test. The site, accessible through the east drive of AL!VE, will be open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The current testing site, at 321 E. Harris St. (across from Tasty Twist), will remain open until 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.
“We appreciate the opportunity to continue offering this vital service close to home, while alleviating some of the traffic congestion we’ve experienced in our current location,” says Suzanne Dezern, Laboratory Supervisor of Sparrow Eaton Hospital. “We think AL!VE will be a perfect site to conduct testing more seamlessly while not disrupting its day-to-day operations.”
Sparrow requires patients who don’t have a physician order to use our “System Checker” and MySparrow portal to register for a test. The self-registration is so easy it can be done within a couple minutes. The MySparrow app registration and login is available at Sparrow.org/MyChart.
The change in COVID-19 testing location is not expected to interfere with parking for AL!VE’s rehabilitation patients, who will continue to park and enter the west side of the building. All other AL!VE building guests (MOVE members, FUSE guests, Big Salad carry-out guests, etc.) will continue to park in the main lot and enter at the front awning. Sparrow Eaton caregivers administering tests will be in a restricted-access area of the building in order to keep all guests of AL!VE safe.
