LANSING, Mich. - The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) recently honored Sparrow, in partnership with the Michigan State University Department of Surgery, as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. The Center of Excellence designation from the ASMBS - which is the largest society for metabolic and bariatric surgery in the world - recognizes programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric weight-loss surgery.
"Choosing to undergo bariatric weight-loss surgery is life-altering - and potentially life-saving," said Panduranga Yenumula, M.D., who is medical director of Sparrow Bariatric Surgery and an assistant professor at Michigan State University. "When making such an important choice, it's vital to choose a program with highly trained physicians and clinicians and a proven track record. Sparrow's program has one of the lowest complication rates of any bariatric surgery program in the state, and the Sparrow team has performed hundreds of successful surgeries."
Dr. Yenumula has also been designated by the ASMBS as a Baratric Surgery Center of Excellence surgeon.
