ST. JOHNS, MI – Sparrow Clinton Hospital honored its Volunteer Caregivers at its recent annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.
This year, the hospital recognized a Volunteer whose compassionate care of his friends and neighbors in Clinton County led to 19 years of outstanding contributions to hospice services.
The late George Dush, a talented old-time fiddler, and his wife, Betty, shared their love of music by facilitating a unique fundraising group in St. Johns – the Mint City Jammers. This group of amateur musicians made the rounds at local events, performing for many community gatherings and collecting donations from food sales and entertainment.
Over two decades, the Mint City Jammers raised more than $141,000 to help fund much-needed medication for Clinton County hospice patients receiving care through Sparrow Hospice Services.
Although George passed away in February, Sparrow Clinton recognized his achievements by honoring his widow with a Volunteer Legacy Award in memory of her husband’s remarkable contributions to the comfort of hospice patients.
All hospital Volunteers who attended the event enjoyed chair massages, hand treatments, aroma therapy, and a buffet luncheon in celebration of their commitment to the hospital.
This luncheon marked National Volunteer Week, a time to honor the many who devote themselves to the service of others. In 2017, a total of 146 area Volunteers donated 5,780 hours of their time and talent at Sparrow Clinton Hospital to improve the quality of healthcare in their communities.
Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
