Sparrow Clinton nurse earns DAISY Award honors

ST. JOHNS, MI – Sparrow Clinton Hospital has recognized a Medical Surgical nurse known for her compassionate care and always putting patients first with the DAISY Award for outstanding nursing.

Lisa Cook, RN, CMSRN, was among 15 Sparrow Clinton nurses nominated for the award. Cook, who joined the Sparrow family in 2016, was nominated by a patient who appreciated her kind, calming personality, and by a fellow nurse.

 “Patients come to us when they are at a low point in their lives and need someone to trust,” Cook said. “I help my patients feel safe and well cared for – like a member of my family.”

DAISY Committee nurses presented Cook with the award, a certificate of recognition, a DAISY pin, and a hand-carved sculpture entitled The Healer’s Touch. In addition, a DAISY Foundation banner signed by Cook and previous DAISY Award winners will be posted in the hospital.

They are fine examples of the quality nursing care that earned this hospital its Pathway to Excellence designation.”

The nominees included Melissa Ball, RN; Sally Battis, BSN, RN; Teri Carey, BSN, RN; Heather Fink, BSN, RN, OCN,CMSRN; Melanie Kotowicz, BSN, RN, CNOR; Marcy Snyder, MSN, RN, OCN,CCRN-P; Rob Beals, RN; Brittany Hagerman, BSN, RN; Gretchen Priess, BSN, RN,CMSRN; Jodie Hills, BSN, RN, CMSRN; Leticia Riley, BSN, RN; Ashley Scott, BSN, RN, CMSRN; Cindy Nakfoor, BSN, RN, CMSRN; and Bridget Willis, BSN, RN.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. Nurses are nominated by their patients and patients’ families.

Sparrow Clinton honors two nurses each year as DAISY Award winners. In addition, a DAISY Team Award is presented as recognition is merited. To nominate an exceptional Sparrow Clinton nurse or Nursing Team, complete and return a form from one of The DAISY Foundation displays at the hospital.
