Sparrow Ionia Hospital today broke ground on the first new hospital in the mid-Michigan region in decades.
The new, two-story hospital will have expanded emergency, surgery, and outpatient services including all digital radiology, private Patient rooms, and enhanced safety and security. The new hospital is being built to LEED-certification standards as we move to be better stewards of our resources while creating healing environments for our Patients.
Once completed, the 63,000-square-foot, 22 bed, state-of-the-art, critical access hospital will replace the current Sparrow Ionia Hospital, which was originally built in 1953.
"The new Sparrow Ionia Hospital will provide Ionia County residents with a modern 'green' Patient-centered facility. It's a demonstration of Sparrow's commitment to providing the residents of Ionia County access to the latest technology with nationally recognized care in a healing environment," said Bill Roeser, President & CEO of Sparrow Ionia Hospital.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the 44-acre site of the new facility, located on South M-66 (South State Road) just south of the Ionia County Airport, and featured a keynote address by Lt. Gov. Brian Calley, a native of Ionia County, and Ionia Mayor Dan Balice.
Preliminary site preparation is underway. The new Sparrow Ionia Hospital is scheduled to open in Spring 2015. See more photos from the groundbreaking ceremony.
