Sparrow breaks ground on new Gathering Place

Published: April 17, 2015

Sparrow today broke ground on the Sparrow Gathering Place – a modern and upscale dining area on the main campus of Sparrow Hospital that will help transform Michigan Avenue in Lansing. See more photos here.

At Sparrow, a major part of our efforts to transform care involves reconfiguring our facilities to meet the expectations of our Patients, their families, and our Caregivers for quality care in a healing environment. This effort extends beyond the bedside to include the entire experience while visiting Sparrow.

The new Gathering Place encompasses a 4,000-square-foot addition, along with 20,000 square feet of renovations, to create a place where Visitors, Patients and Caregivers can come together, relax and recharge.

Offering fresh, quality cuisine, food stations, and mixed seating, this space will feature bright open spaces and a wall of glass with a view along Michigan Avenue.

Preliminary site preparation is underway and the Sparrow Gathering Place is expected to be complete by Summer 2016.

Sparrow’s Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) department is committed to good nutrition through fresh, wholesome food. More than 1,300 made-to-order Patient meals and 5,000 retail meals are served every day at Sparrow. The new Gathering Place will feature a demonstration kitchen to be used for a variety of cooking classes as part of existing nutrition education and other community programs.

Sparrow has undertaken a significant investment in the community, more than $285 million in construction and information technology projects over a five-year period, as we continue to transform care, implement best practices, and deliver nationally recognized care.

Choose Wisely. Choose Sparrow.
