The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Sharon Foust of Holt as the March Volunteer of the Month.
Foust has volunteered in the Pre-Op Lounge at Sparrow Hospital for more than seven years. She started after retiring from Sparrow’s Human Resource Department.
Foust enjoys being able to help Patients and families by helping relieve their anxiety. She calls it amazing and appreciates that each day is different. Foust is also the scheduler and trainer for Volunteers and fills in often when others cannot be there, especially on short notice. She is said to have a positive, perky attitude, even on the very early shift.
She grew up in Big Rapids where she met her husband, Richard. They moved to Lansing for Richard’s job with the State of Michigan. Previous to her work at Sparrow, Foust worked in banking for 24 years with American Bank & Trust, which became First of America, and then National City.
Foust and her husband have a daughter and son and four grandchildren. She enjoys attending school activities with her grandchildren and often bakes cookies for their events. Travel is usually to Virginia to see their son’s family and they have traveled extensively with her husband’s Lion’s Club group.
She also volunteers for funeral dinners at their church, Immaculate Heart of Mary and also serves as an election inspector.
The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers take great honor in celebrating the gifts of concern, care, and time given to Sparrow’s Patients and families in Volunteers like Sharon Foust. To learn more about Volunteer opportunities at Sparrow, visit Sparrow.org or call 517.364.3606, option 1.
