Construction crews have started working on the first phase of renovations for the $7-million Mary Free Bed at Sparrow rehabilitation unit, a joint venture between Sparrow Hospital and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital.
The project will expand the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Sparrow to 40 private Patient rooms and two therapy gymnasiums on the same floor to provide advanced rehabilitation care for Patients in the mid-Michigan region.
The unit will continue to provide intensive neurological, orthopedic, and stroke rehab care.
The first phase of renovations, including 30 of the 40 planned private Patient rooms, is expected to be finished by mid-2015. The remainder of the project is expected to be complete by early 2016.
Sparrow’s current inpatient rehabilitation unit is housed on two floors of the hospital. Mary Free Bed at Sparrow will combine all aspects of adult rehabilitation care and therapy in one convenient area.
