LANSING, Mich. – Providing access to world-class pediatric specialty care close to home for Mid-Michigan families is a priority for us here at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow.
We are committed to making sure families can get the care they need from top pediatric specialists without having to travel far, whenever possible.
There are some transitions underway related to our pediatric hematology and oncology service, but we are committed to supporting our patients and families every step of the way.
What changes are taking place?
MSU Health Care is closing their pediatric hematology and oncology clinic that was located in our Sparrow Professional Building, effective June 1, 2025.
The good news is that UM Health-Sparrow is opening a pediatric hematology and oncology clinic in that same building, in our Pediatric Specialty Clinic Suite, on June 2. This clinic will be managed by pediatric hematology and oncology specialists from U-M Health C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, alongside a physician from MSU Health Care.
Our vision is to build a comprehensive pediatric hematology program in Lansing, in partnership with C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital, to support families from throughout Mid-Michigan close to home with state-of-the art care.
During the transition, some patients may be referred to see our colleagues at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, while we work to expand our Lansing clinic. Our care teams are fully integrated, however, and you can expect a seamless experience whether you are seen at our Lansing clinic or our Ann Arbor clinic.
Inpatient care and hospital-based services will continue.
We will also continue offering infusion services and select inpatient care at our hospital in Lansing. We expect to be able to expand our inpatient offerings soon, but initially we may recommend some patients be cared for by our colleagues at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. We will work with your family to determine the best place for you to receive care, and our team will make all arrangements for transfers or admissions to the hospital in Ann Arbor, if needed.
You are in good hands with C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.
The pediatric hematology and oncology program at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor is the #1 children’s cancer program in the state of Michigan, according to U.S. News & World Report. In fact, year after year, the team at U-M is ranked among the nation’s top children’s cancer programs.
C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital is also home to the largest pediatric cancer research effort in the state of Michigan. We are a very active member of the Children’s Oncology Group Phase I and Phase II-III consortiums, offering families access to a wide range of clinical trials designed to find new treatments for childhood cancers. We have the most comprehensive and largest portfolio of clinical trials in the state of Michigan for relapsed cancers, many of which were developed here at U-M.
How do I keep my care at UM Health-Sparrow?
Families with questions about how to transfer their appointments from the MSU Pediatric Hematology Oncology clinic that is closing this Spring to the new UM Health-Sparrow clinic can contact Theresa Gracik, administrative director for pediatric services at UM Health-Sparrow at [email protected]. She is working closely with Cindy Meteyer, Diane Johnston and staff from the MSU pediatric hematology oncology clinic.
We are working to open scheduling for the new clinic soon, which will begin seeing patients on June 2.
