The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Gretchen Rosenbrook the May Volunteer of the Month. Rosenbrook has been volunteering for Sparrow for 37 years after being invited by a neighbor to join the Women’s Board. She started out in Radiology in 1982. She served on the Women’s Board of Managers for 10 years, from 1986-1996, serving part of that time as the Volunteer Services Committee Chair. She also recruited many quality people for the Women’s Board. More recently, she has volunteered in the pre-op lounge for the last 7 years. She is said to be extremely loyal, a very good leader, has good judgement and works hard. She is also a charter member of the Sparrow “Patient Ambassador” Group who work on improving patient satisfaction. She enjoys helping patients and their families feel comfortable around the hospital.
Her other volunteer activities include her membership at Peoples Church for over 50 years, where she is in a group that visits people in nursing homes and the homebound. She also has a membership in the Wharton Inner Circle with Act 1, ushering for children’s events and, she is a member of the Lansing Women’s Club and her sorority Alumni Group.
In Rosenbrook’s spare time, she knits prayer shawls and baby blankets, has golfed at Indian Hills and Forest Acres Golf Courses for over 50 years. She and her husband, Dennis, have been enjoying winters in Florida on Anna Maria Island since 1971. They have 6 grandchildren. They both enjoy attending all of the MSU men’s basketball games.
She grew up in Indiana and came to Michigan to attend MSU studying Education and then taught 2nd. Grade in Grand Rapids and East Lansing.
