Rachael Smith, a community resource coordinator for University of Michigan Health-Sparrow’s Navigation Hub, goes above and beyond to connect patients with vital services, ensuring they receive the support they need for their well-being.
“Being able to help people in the community from different walks of life is very special,” said Rachael. “When we can support them not only in their personal lives but also in accessing the health care they need, it’s incredibly rewarding, and it feels great when patients come back to express their appreciation and share that the problem they faced is no longer a barrier.”
From assisting with utility shut-off notices to providing information on food banks, housing support and medication affordability, Rachel ensures patients receive the care and resources they need. This is just one of the reasons she is this month’s Sparrow Spotlight.
