Jennifer Parsons, a driver/courier for Sparrow Pharmacy Plus, loves helping people and has a keen awareness of patient needs. For the past five years, Jennifer has delivered medications to patients, particularly those with disabilities and older people who are not able to leave their homes.
“The great thing about coming to work at Sparrow is that I get to help people,” said Jennifer. And when she recently encountered an elderly patient having an allergic reaction and trouble breathing, she did just that.
“I had delivered a package to a patient, and she was up in age, and she was home alone,” explained Jennifer. “She had eaten some peanuts and her tongue was swelling and cutting off her breathing. I immediately called our dispatch and we determined that we should call 911, which we did.”
The woman was frightened, and Jennifer assured her she would stay by her side until EMS arrived. That’s one reason Jennifer is this month’s Caregiver Spotlight.
“I would like to think that I was at the right place at the right time,” said Jennifer. “I was there to help and would do it again.”
