LANSING, MI – Tina M. Gross, MSN, BAS, RN, SANE, has been named President/Chief Nursing Officer of Sparrow Specialty Hospital, effective April 3.
Gross currently serves as SSH’s Chief Nursing Officer and succeeds Lou Little, who recently retired. She’s been an integral part of the SSH team since 2005 and has taken on expanded leadership roles over the years.
The Jackson resident has close to 35 years of healthcare experience in a variety of clinical and non-clinical roles, including administration, nursing leadership, Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner, charge nurse, educator, surveyor with the State of Michigan, medical assistant, and phlebotomist. She currently serves on the board for Michigan Organization of Nurse Leaders – Bylaws Committee and Jackson County Advisory Council on Aging.
Based on her own personal experience, Gross takes great pride in encouraging others to take one class at a time to achieve their career and life goals. She received on-the-job training as a laboratory phlebotomist while enrolled in classes to obtain a Medical Assistant certification from Ross Medical. She then sought a practical nursing certificate and associate degree in Nursing from Lansing Community College. She went on to obtain her Bachelor of Applied Science with a major in Nursing from Siena Heights University and her Master’s in Nursing Administration from Norwich University.
Sparrow Specialty Hospital is a unique 30-bed acute care facility that specializes in caring for patients who require a 25-day or longer length of stay in a hospital setting. It is located at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. SSH began in 2004 as a new type of hospital, not a nursing home or rehabilitation facility, but a hospital designed for patients who need intense, extended care services to heal from traumatic injuries and other serious or medically complex conditions.
