Hospitals, practices recognized for safety and quality

LANSING, Mich. – University of Michigan Health Sparrow Carson, Clinton, Eaton and Ionia hospitals, along with several primary care offices throughout Mid-Michigan, have been honored with this year’s Governor’s Awards of Excellence for outstanding quality and patient safety.

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow team members accept their Governor’s Award of Excellence for outstanding quality and patient safety.

The UM Health-Sparrow community hospitals and practices were among more than 150 Michigan hospitals, physician practices, nursing homes and other facilities honored by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, the nonprofit iMPROve Health and the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Keystone Center. A celebration was recently held at Eagle Eye Golf Course in Bath Township to honor recipients.

For the care provided between May 2022 and May 2024, UM Health-Sparrow Carson was recognized for increasing influenza vaccination rates. UM Health-Sparrow Clinton was honored for reducing readmissions and clostridioides difficile (c. diff) infection rates, as well as being an excellent communicator when transferring patients from its emergency department to another health care facility. Both University of Michigan Health-Sparrow Eaton and Ionia were also recognized for their outstanding communication skills when transferring patients.

UM Health-Sparrow’s Charlotte 123 Primary Care, Eaton Rapids Primary Care, Ionia Primary Care, Saranac Primary Care and Portland Primary Care were all celebrated for their effective management of diabetes.
