LANSING, Mich. -The Sparrow Children's Center will receive dozens of pies from the Grand Traverse Pie Company on Saturday, Christmas Eve, as an early and tasty Christmas present for young Patients and their families.
The downtown Lansing location plans to donate 32 pies total-16 pot pies for dinner and 16 fruit pies for dessert. The Children's Center includes the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Pediatric Emergency Department.
"We greatly appreciate the Grand Traverse Pie Company's generosity and the impact the donation will have on our young Patients and their families," said Dr. Stephen Guertin, MD, Medical Director of the Sparrow Children's Center.
"No matter what faith our Patients and their families are, the holiday season is a tough time to be in the hospital. It is wonderful that the Grand Traverse Pie Company recognizes that and responded in such a thoughtful way," he said.
The downtown Lansing location opened in January, so this is the store's first opportunity to spread holiday cheer to Sparrow Patients, said Kim Dorbos, Lansing-area Marketing Director for Grand Traverse Pie Company.
"We like to be really involved in our community," she said.
For more than a century, Sparrow has been a leader in caring for children. The first hospital in mid-Michigan to offer a dedicated children's unit, Sparrow today is home to the region's only full-service pediatric emergency department. As the region's Children's Miracle Network hospital, Sparrow is able to provide families the most advanced technology and treatment options in pediatric and neonatal care.
