How would you summarize your new position?
In Environment of Care (EOC) we focus on providing safe physical environments for patients, visitors and team members. In this new position I will work to strengthen EOC programs across the region and focus on expanding best practices and standardization of processes. Areas of focus in EOC include security, hazardous materials, life safety, clinical equipment, utilities and general safety – which include OSHA-related considerations as well as team member injuries.

What are your top three goals for the region or the hospital?
Top goals are to provide stability to the EOC Safety program at West, to provide consistent coverage at all Sparrow hospitals and ultimately standardize policies and processes across the region.

What is one thing you've learned about Sparrow and/or University of Michigan Health-West that surprised you?
This is not a surprise, but I have enjoyed working with team members at West and have noted the willingness to work across department lines.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I am excited to be able to focus our team’s efforts on EOC. I look forward to continuing to work with our excellent Lansing-based team, and I am looking forward to continuing to become more familiar with West. I’ve met so many great people in my short time working with the West team.

Where is your favorite place in Michigan to vacation?
I went to high school in Petoskey and that continues to be my favorite place to vacation in Michigan. However, my favorite vacation in Michigan was probably a five-night backpacking trip on Isle Royale.

What book or movie did you last read or watch?
Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles

Anything else, either personal or professional, that you’d like to add?
I have lived in East Lansing with my wife Karen for over 30 years where we raised two daughters.
