With no school and not much on the agenda for some kids, it's easy to get into a rut of video games and sleeping in. But parents should use this time to get kids physically moving.
"Kids have so much access to technology now that it's easy for them to turn on the computer, the TV, or play video games," said Jennifer Gabriel, Youth and Family Programs Supervisor at the Sparrow Michigan Athletic Club. "But summer is the perfect time to get outside and get active."
Gabriel says parents can and should help, too. It can be something as simple as playing catch outside or going to a park.
"Local parks are a great place to start," Gabriel said. "Playing Frisbee, kickball, or setting up an obstacle course or relay race with your kids can be a lot of fun and great exercise. Make a game out of it so you and your family can all have fun together."
The Sparrow MAC also offers summer camp options for kids. The camps take place throughout the summer for kids ages 3-12. Log on to sparrow.org/MAC or call 517.364.8888 to learn more.
