CHARLOTTE, MI -- Nurses at Sparrow Eaton Hospital have received a five-star rating for the incredible way they communicate with patients and listen to their needs.
Becker's Hospital Review, a medical industry trade magazine that reports on, as well as conducts, its own research on healthcare, gave nurses at Sparrow Eaton, along with Sparrow Carson and Sparrow Ionia, five stars for nurse communication. Nurses from University of Michigan Health also received five stars. Sparrow is part of U-M Health.
The five-star ranking was based on data compiled from three survey questions that summarize how well patients feel their nurses clearly explained things, listened carefully to the patient, and treated the patient with courtesy and respect.
“Our nurses at Sparrow Eaton take pride in providing the best possible care and utmost compassion to our patients,” said Sparrow Eaton Hospital Chief Nursing Officer Tiffany Friar, DNP, MBA, RN. “Honest and clear communication between our nurses and patients helps us deliver the best treatment and makes our patients feel heard, eases their worries, and encourages them to share relevant, important information.”
To build its assessment, Becker’s used Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) data from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). CMS shares 10 HCAHPS star ratings based on publicly reported measures. The star rating is based on survey data collected from hospital patients from July 2021 through June 2022.
