As the steel beams are rising for a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department at Sparrow Clinton Hospital in St. Johns, so has the community support.
The Sparrow Clinton Hospital Foundation recently received a $10,000 grant from the Capital Region Community Foundation for its Right Here, Right Now Capital Campaign, bringing the total funds raised from the initial phase of the campaign to over $1 million.
The Capital Region Community Foundation is a local resource providing charitable needs to non-profits in humanities, education, environment, healthcare, and human services to enhance the quality of life in Ingham, Eaton and Clinton counties.
This gift was made during the "quiet phase" of the campaign, which reached out to leading philanthropists, community businesses, Physicians and Caregivers. Other major gifts have come from individuals, foundations, farms, service organizations, area businesses, and the Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary.
"Our Auxiliary members have pledged to donate $100,000 over the next five years," says Gay Baker, Sparrow Clinton Hospital Auxiliary Co-President. "We're excited to know that our fundraising dollars are building something so important for our community."
With construction well underway, Sparrow Clinton Hospital now moves into the public campaign to raise additional funds to underwrite the $5.7 million cost of the project.
At 9,935 square feet, the new Emergency Services Department will offer nearly three times the space and feature 10 private treatment rooms, two trauma treatment rooms, and a separate entrance and lobby for Emergency Department Patients. Construction is expected to be completed in June 2014.
The existing 2,740-square-foot facility was designed to manage 8,000 annual Patient visits. However, the hospital currently sees 14,000 Patients and that number is expected to reach 17,000 within the next two years.
