CARSON CITY, MI -- Eric Hagerman of Carson City had experienced lower back pain for years but felt claustrophobic when he slid into a standard MRI for a body scan.
That changed when he used Sparrow Carson Hospital’s Wide-Bore MRI Unit, which offers an additional six inches of space over a traditional MRI and can accommodate patients of up to 550 pounds or with extra-wide shoulders.
"Wow, what a difference,” Hagerman said.
"From the wall of windows brightening up the entire room to the décor, you almost forget you are in a hospital. The MRI technician explained the process and even asked me what music I’d like to listen to during the scan. With the larger, more open tube, I didn’t even need to take a Valium to get through the scan."
MRI appointments require physician approval in advance. To learn more about Sparrow Carson’s Imaging Department, go to Sparrow.org/Carson.
The Wide-Bore unit is also available at Sparrow Health Center Lansing. Go to Sparrow.org for more information.
