Dania Williams, an RN in Sparrow Hospital’s Advanced Medical Stepdown unit, says she focuses on the total needs of patients and that she learns as much from them as they do from her.
“Patient care is number one to me. … I believe in taking care of my entire patient, not just their symptoms or why they’re admitted. … I try to give my patients total healthcare.”
Dania said she always knew she wanted to help people but it took time to realize her true calling. “I didn’t choose to do nursing. I feel nursing chose me.”
Colleagues say she above and beyond for patients every day, citing an anecdote in which Dania helped distract the young daughter of a seriously ill patient.
“Dania not only took care of her patient, but she engaged with the family and the child,” according to the nomination submitted by Patient Care Technician Harley Dunn. “Dania spent extra time helping the daughter use her stethoscope to listen to her dad's heart. The daughter had a smile from ear to ear. … She does things like this on a consistent basis.”
