Jennifer “JJ” Brandt, RN, a Sparrow Hospital Emergency Department nurse, goes above and beyond to be a voice for her patients and to advocate on their behalf.
When JJ recently encountered a young patient who was ill, she had a sense about what was wrong and requested his provider order a specific test for him. The child turned out to have a rare disorder related to COVID-19 and JJ’s advocacy helped save his life.
“Part of nursing involves being a voice for the people who come here for our help,” says JJ. “We help fill in the gaps when voices aren’t heard or when voices don’t know what to say.”
JJ is passionate about advocating for patients. That’s one reason why she is this month’s Caregiver Spotlight.
