Comprehensive Wound Care
At UM Health-Sparrow Wound Care and Hyperbaric Services, you’ll receive an individualized treatment plan to help heal your wounds. Some of the following methods may be included in your treatment plan:
- Specialized Wound Dressings
- Sharp Debridement (removal of dead tissue)
- Off-Loading Measures (taking pressure off the wound)
- Compression Therapy
- Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
- Bio-Engineered Tissue Substitutes
- Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO2) Therapy
Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO2) therapy is a medical treatment prescribed by a provider to enhance the body's ability to heal. During hyperbaric oxygen therapy, you breathe 100% pure oxygen while inside a pressurized chamber. The pressure inside the chamber is about two and half times greater than the normal pressure in the atmosphere. This high pressure environment allows your blood to carry more oxygen to all parts of your body to repair injured tissue. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is often used in conjunction with other treatments. This includes:
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Chronic bone infections
- Non-healing surgical skin flaps and grafts
- Symptoms caused by radiation therapy (such as pain, wounds, rectal or bladder bleeding)
- Crush injuries
- Certain types of sudden hearing loss
- Sudden vision loss
