About UM Health-Sparrow Children's Center
Pediatric surgeons specialize in the surgical care of children. After completing training and achieving board certification in general surgery, pediatric surgeons complete additional years of training exclusively in pediatric surgery and receive special certification in that subspecialty. A group of board-certified pediatric surgeon perform general and non-cardiac thoracic surgeries at The University of Michigan Health at the UM Health-Sparrow Children's Center.
What to Expect During a Visit
In most cases, the first visit to our office involves meeting with the surgeon, reviewing your child's medical history, and a physical examination.
After the examination, the surgeon will explain his recommendations. If surgery is indicated, the surgeon or one of the surgical nurses will talk with you about when it should be performed and what to expect following surgery. The nurse will schedule any tests that need to be performed prior to the surgery.
It is our goal to see patients at their scheduled time; however, occasionally emergencies occur and delays are unavoidable. We appreciate your understanding if this occurs during your visit.
Pediatric surgeons are dedicated to providing your child and family with the best possible care. We understand that you may have questions and concerns about your child's surgery and care, and we encourage you to contact us.
