Stroke Outcomes
The performance measures in the table below were developed by the Joint Commission in partnership with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) and show how UM Health-Sparrow compared against state and national benchmarks as well as American Heart Association recommendations.
Timing is critical for treating patients with ischemic stroke. The table below shows our percentage of eligible patients treated with thrombolytic within 30 minutes of arrival at 85.2% (goal is 50%).
Procedure Outcomes
Those who are not getting better with clot busting medication can be considered for a minimally invasive procedures to remove the clot from a blocked vessel. The chart below shows our rate of success clot removal during an emergent thrombectomy at 93.85% (goal is 80%).
The procedure outcomes below show our percentage of major complications as compared to the Joint Commission target for stroke related procedures:
- Symptomatic carotid endarterectomy and carotid artery stenting: 3.8% as compared to the Joint Commission target of <6%.
- Asymptomatic carotid endarterectomy and carotid artery stenting: 1.2% as compared to the Joint Commission target of <3%.
